Sacramento Legal Secretaries Association (SLSA) is a member of Legal Secretaries, Incorporated (LSI), a California nonprofit corporation established in 1934. The main purpose of SLSA and LSI is educating and training legal support staff, but membership is open to anyone that works in a law-related field.

Requirements

ACTIVE. Persons licensed to practice law, or engaged in work of a legal nature for a period of not less than one (1) year, in the office of an attorney licensed to practice law in this state, or in the courts of this state, trust departments of banks or trust companies, or in any other institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature, including the public offices of the United States Government, state, cities, counties or municipalities.

STUDENT. Persons training to become legal secretaries may be presented student membership in this Association on payment of one-half the annual dues set by this Association. Upon completion of required active legal office employment as set forth in subsection A above, such students may become full active members with all the rights and obligations of such membership. Student members are allowed to retain the student membership status for no more than one (1) year after becoming employed; and they are neither eligible for office nor have voting rights, but may serve on committees.

ASSOCIATE. Persons with a desire to become legal secretaries may be presented associate membership in this Association on payment of one-half the annual dues set by this Association. Upon completion of required active legal office employment as set forth in subsection A above, such associates may become full active members with all the rights and obligations of such membership. Associate members are allowed to retain the associate membership status for no more than two (2) years after becoming employed; and they are neither eligible for office nor have voting rights, but may serve on committees.

All applicants are required to submit an application along with the membership dues of $40 per fiscal year before they can be recommended to the board for active membership. All applicants are initiated as a member at the second meeting they attend.

FISCAL YEAR: Our fiscal is from May 1 to April 30. Applicants inducted between the months of November and January are pro rated at $30. We discourage inductions between February and April, as members will only have until April 30 before they are requested to renew their membership.

Our monthly programs are presented by experienced legal and legal-related professionals pertinent to their area of expertise. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of our membership in terms of professional and personal growth. You may wish to refer to the Sacramento Daily Recorder, the Sacramento Gazette, or The Sacramento Lawyer for information on the monthly meetings, or call (916) 448-5868.

Benefits available to qualified members of LSI (you are automatically a member when you join SLSA) include Hertz discounts; Price-Costco membership; credit unions; and dental, health, retirement, and disability plans. Also included with your active SLSA membership are twelve issues of our monthly bulletin, The Legal Eagle, and four issues of LSI's The Legal Secretary. Our latest benefit is membership with the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. This is available to all SLSA members. This is not a benefit of LSI. Anyone who is a member of SLSA will also have Chamber membership benefits (i.e., access to Chamber events).

CHANGE OF ADDRESS:  Current and active members can click here for your Change of Address form in PDF or Microsoft Word.  Any time your information changes, please make sure that you complete the form and submit it promptly so that your benefits of membership are not interrupted.  (NOTE: After you click the link you will need to "Save" the document. Make note of the folder you save it in on your computer, this is in the "Save In" window.)
