SACRAMENTO LEGAL SECRETARIES ASSOCIATION OFFERS THE FOLLOWING JUSTICE FRANCIS NEWELL CARR SCHOLARSHIPS TO
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WHO DESIRE A CAREER IN THE "LEGAL FIELD"*
* For purposes of this scholarship,
a career in the "legal field" shall be interpreted and defined as: (1) Legal
Secretary, including Receptionist, (2) Legal Assistant, including Paralegal, (3) Court
Reporter, and (4) Law Office Administration.
PLAN A - COLLEGE STUDENTS - One award of
$1,000
Applicants shall be restricted to
students who desire a career in the legal field who will have completed at least one year
of college by June 2007, and who will be enrolled in the Fall 2008 semester in a college
or business school in a course of study in the legal field, leading to a degree or
certificate of completion upon graduation. Scholarships are not intended for students
planning to enter law school.
PLAN B - HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS - One award of
$1,000
Applicants shall be restricted to
graduating high school seniors who successfully completed secretarial/business courses in
high school and will be enrolled in the Fall 2008 semester in a college or business school
offering a course of study in the legal field, leading to a degree or certificate of
completion upon graduation.
PLAN C
- RE-ENTRY - One award of $1,000
Applicants who do not qualify under
Plan A or B, but who wish to pursue their education in the legal field. This category will
include the following: (a) an individual who desires to re-enter the work force, but
requires training, a "refresher" course; (b) an individual currently working,
but who desires to enter the legal field and wants to receive the training needed to do
so, and who (i) cannot afford such training or specialized education, and/or (ii) cannot
afford to quit working to pursue that goal.

All applications and required
documents must be typewritten and submitted in triplicate no later than January 30, 2009.
