Founded in 1940, Sacramento Legal Secretaries Association (SLSA) is one of the largest local chapters of Legal Professionals, Inc. (LPI). Members of SLSA are legal secretaries, legal assistants, paralegals, attorneys, office clerks, and other legal personnel.
SLSA holds its monthly dinner meetings on the third Thursday of each month. These meetings feature guest speakers who are invited to make educational presentations to SLSA members and guests. At each dinner meeting, SLSA provides continuing education credits, i.e., MCLE for attorneys and paralegals and CCLS credit for California Certified Legal Secretaries. Our monthly dinner meetings also feature a Vendor of the Month who gives a brief presentation on the services its company offers and specializes in, allowing attendees to be kept up-to-date on the latest technology and legal support companies in the Sacramento area. At each dinner meeting, SLSA also conducts business according to its Bylaws and Standing Rules. The cost for the dinner meetings is typically $25 for members of SLSA and $30 for non-members. SLSA may conduct two special Day in Court events each year, one for State Court in January and the other for Federal Court in February. The January Day in Court event can feature speakers from Sacramento County Superior Court, as well as many surrounding counties, such as Placer, El Dorado, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Yuba, and the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District. The cost for the Day in Court events is slightly higher than a regular monthly meeting, and the events are attended by as many as 200 legal professionals each year.
Members of SLSA receive discounts on enrollment fees for educational meetings, seminars, conferences, and dinner meetings presented by SLSA and LPI. Benefits available to qualified members of LPI (of which you are automatically a member when you join SLSA as an active member) include Hertz discounts; membership in credit unions; and dental, health, retirement, and disability plans. Also included with SLSA membership are twelve issues of its award-winning monthly bulletin, The Legal Eagle, and four issues of LPI’s The Legal Secretary. SLSA is always looking for additional benefits to offer to its members.
